Q: What is Tangier’s weather like in May?

A: In early May, Tangier enjoys mild days, with average daytime temperatures around 20-24 °C (68-75 °F). Lightweight layers are ideal for daytime comfort, along with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sunny hours. For evenings, bring a light jacket or shawl to stay comfortable when the temperature dips.

    Q: Is Morocco safe?

A: Morocco is incredibly safe for world travelers. As with any destination, keep valuables secure and stay cautious in busy areas.

    Morocco Tips

    Currency & Payments

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and some restaurants accept credit cards, it’s best to carry cash for taxis, markets, and small shops. Currency exchange is available at the airport, banks, and currency exchange offices. ATMs are widely available; we recommend withdrawing money in the city rather than at the airport to get better exchange rates.

    Language

Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is widely spoken, along with French and Spanish, in Tangier. English is spoken, but less commonly. It can be helpful to learn a few basic phrases in French or Darija, or to use a translation app if needed.

    Local Etiquette

Moroccans are warm, respectful, and value hospitality. Dress modestly when outside the hotel, especially in historic sites or markets. A friendly “Salam” (hello) and smile go a long way. Always use your right hand to give or receive items, and ask before taking photos of people. Tipping is customary, keep small bills and coins for service staff, porters, and drivers (10-20 MAD is appreciated).

    Transport & Getting Around

Taxis are affordable but should be negotiated before the ride if they don’t use the meter. Alternatively, use ride apps like InDrive. For longer trips, MyRose Events can assist in organizing private transport.

    Connectivity & SIM Cards

International roaming can be expensive. We recommend purchasing a local SIM card (INWI, Orange, or Maroc Telecom) at the airport or nearby shops. Data packages are inexpensive and reliable. Most hotels and cafés offer free Wi-Fi as well.

    Food & Water

Moroccan cuisine is rich, aromatic, and full of flavor, expect to enjoy traditional dishes such as tagines, couscous, grilled meats, fresh seafood, and delicious pastries. Meals are often shared family-style, and mint tea is a staple of Moroccan hospitality. Tap water is not recommended for drinking, stick to bottled water, which is widely available, and avoid ice in casual cafés or food stalls.
